Inside, the plastic ball valve is a hollow ball with a central hole. The ball is attached to a handle that allows it to rotate. Rotating the handle 90 degrees (a quarter turn) aligns the hole with the pipe to allow flow, or perpendicular to the pipe to prevent flow.
